You are briefed to do an illustration for fruit juice packaging (orange and banana flavour). The name of the product is: Loose Juice.
- Draw at least 15 scamps (they can be A6 size each) of what the label will look like. Remember to include the fruit, the name of the flavour and the name of the product.
- Choose one of your sketches and draw the label, using Adobe Illustrator. The artwork can be A6 (landscape or portrait).
I haven’t used Illustrator before and vector graphic differs from any other programs I have been using. So I used a lot of time (first trying to get my connections to work but I don’t want to complain too much about that) watching the tutorial video Drawing without the pen tool by Mordi Golding (4h 39m). I have to say that waiting the video to download every two minutes it took at least triple time. That’s why I started to sketch meanwhile a bit but in the end realized that some of my sketches would still be too complicated to do. I also tried to take lots of notes so that I wouldn’t have to go back so much to repeat things. I have to say that I learned a lot in this session but I still have a LOT to learn – for example how to use the colors and the effects. But it’s a start!
First I started sketching just what comes to my mind combining banana and orange. Then I tried different ways of writing the name of the product. I also thought about different ways how you can draw the banana and/or orange: slices, one piece or many pieces or use just color, peeled half way etc. In the end I has draw what ever came to my mind: adding a monkey, the fruits are “loose” from the prison. Here’s my 15 sketches:
Here’s my practise for the assignment but I’m not happy with the colors or the box below the text. I was trying it first without the blue color – just black and white but the name of the product was too invisible. I have to get more knowledge about the colors and effects to continue with this one.
So I decided to choose a more simple one and totally different sketch. Here’s my result:
