Katy Perry called me and wanted me to make a poster for her song “Roar”. It was an interesting and challenging task while the target group nor the music wasn’t too familiar to me. To make the poster we had to make a photography based illustration using both Illustrator and Photoshop.
I found that the main target group is teenagers and the secondary target group is who ever feels pushed down and wants to get inspiration and energy to get back to their own feet or are facing their biggest fears. The poster is a reminder about the beautiful butterfly who lives inside you.
Of course when the deadline came I got a flu and was laying in bed in 38c and the computer crashed down but nevertheless I was able to deliver on time and happy about it.
I wanted the colors to represent the beauty and fear – win and battle. Strong colors that can give energy and good mood. I also wanted the colors to connect the poster to the music and the music video. I chose a dark green (passive hue) for the background where an active hue can easily advance. For the butterfly I chose the complimentary color from the opposite side – purple.
